First Blues Music Festival at Hobbit House a HUGE SUCCESS

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Wow. Whoa. What a night!

It was our pleasure at Rebolusyon Rekords and Rakrakan to be part of the 1st Bluesfest. It felt good to be involved in a blues music show in Manila after taking the Blueskrieg train up south and north of Luzon…

Kudos to Andy and The Blue Rats for starting the Bluesfest. Hats off to Pidoy and the hobbits for handling the massive surge of people. Big shoutout to the following:

- the bands Soul Benders, Plug, Kulukati, Snakecharmer (welcome back), The Blue Rats, Jun Lopito and Diamond Dogs, Mr Crayon and Alex of Hukkah
- RJ UR 105.9 for the radio plugs
- Pidoy and Hobbit House crew
- Howlin Dave for the energetic emceeing
- Direk for running a tight show
- Jonathan for the video coverage
- and May for ensuring that everybody got paid, hehehe.

What a fantastic evening of soulful blues and rock n roll. Sa uulitin.

Pinoy Blues Music video. Tumblin Down by PLUG live at 19East

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

I thought it was a special and memorable blues night, great line up, nice venue, nice sound, nice vibes.

I had the gig captured on two video cameras and I also recorded the audio multi track (drums overhead, kick, bass guitar, guitar 1, guitar 2, vocals and the stereo mix from the house). My impression after skimming the captured video and audio material is that we may be able to make something out of it, (DVD anyone?). We did not capture all, but we captured a lot.

Lots of footage and clips of Lampano Alley, Kulukati, Snakecharmer, PLUG and The Long Johns.

I’ll be posting music videos on an installment basis coz it takes a ton of time to edit the video to the mixed sound track. iMovie has only 1 video track and I’m doing multi-cam edits that need to be synced to the audio - yeah, it’s a torture and pain but have to do it that way until I get Final Cut Express HD.
The mixing of the multi-track audio parts is kinda easy, mostly balancing and taming the spikes, to retain the live feel, as much as possible 60% should come from the house mix.

Anyway, here is the first music video installment….

Pinoy blues music very much alive in PLUG

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Here’s a feature on PLUG and Blueskrieg CD at Tugtog.com.

By Michelle Ciriacruz

PLUG Pinoy Blues bandBlues music sprung from the hopes and despair of the black people when, enslaved, they closed their eyes and let it all out, and the music transformed their soul into the stuff of musical legends. So I gathered from my talk with the 5-man blues-rock band Plug in front of 6Underground on C. Palanca Street in Makati as they killed time with me right before a gig.

Of course, they explained about blues in a slightly different way. But then I am simply giving in to something vocalist Emy said about what it is about blues that calls so to him, “[Blues is when you] close your eyes and feel your music.

Blueskrieg Launch Party a smashing affair

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

I would consider the BLUESKRIEG CD launch party last night (Saturday, November 25, 2006) a smashing blues music and Pinoy rock affair - great music, great bands, great vibes. Here we are with a CD of Pinoy blues songs and music - 11 years after the first and only BLUESKRIEG concert at Club Dredd in 1995 - this is a Pinoy blues music revolution - the soldiers are the brave Pinoy blues bands featured in the Blueskrieg CD - the battle is for the Filipinos hearts and minds - that the music will be appreciated and understood. At the launch party last night - it seems we won a handful of hearts and minds!

SNAKECHARMER at the Blueskrieg CD Launch Party, Nov. 25, 2006

Thanks a lot to the following for making the evening a truly enjoyable blues night to remember
- the bands for a wonderful show; DAHON, SNAKECHARMER, KULUKATI, FIREBOTTLE and PLUG
- The BLUE RATS band for a great sounding, hard grooving set of classic blues songs
- all the people who came to support their bands/friends
- all the 22 people who bought their own copy of the BLUESKRIEG CD, maraming salamat po!

Click here for some photos of the Blueskrieg launch party.

We also have video footage of selected numbers - coming soon to a YouTube near you. ;)

We truly had a reason to celebrate last night - there was just so much time and work that went into the making of the BLUESKRIEG CD - from the recording sessions, harmonizing all the schedules of five different bands to the mixing sessions, to the mastering sessions, to the CD packaging and art design - a LOT OF WORK. Thanks to May Diwa for her all out support for this project. Thanks to all the guys at Sound Weavers who helped make it happen; Mon Reynera, Doff Sandigan, CJ Salonga. Thanks to Joric Maglanque for facilitating this project into such a quickstart from idea to reality.

Come the first week of December, the Blueskrieg CDs should be available in most major record stores like Odyssey, Tower Records and MusicOne. Tell your friends, tell your parents - they will surely find a lot of songs to like in the CD. And tell the kids - this is music for the soul. :D
Long live Pinoy blues music. Hats off to DAHON, FIREBOTTLE, KULUKATI, PLUG and SNAKECHARMER! You guys rock!
